Practical information

Answers to the most frequent questions before a first consultation.

What is the waiting time for a first appointment?

In general, the waiting time is 2 to 4 weeks.

What should I bring to the first consultation?

Your identity card.

The referral note from your dentist or general practitioner if you were given one — if possible, provide their e-mail address.

Any radiographs in your possession. Ask your dentist to send the radiographs by e-mail or on a USB stick, in good quality: photos of the dentist's screen taken with your phone are insufficient, and paper prints must be of good quality.

The list of medicines you are taking.

The documents for your insurance.

How does the first consultation proceed? Will the doctor perform the procedure straight away?

No: as a general rule, no procedure or treatment is carried out at the first consultation.

The doctor takes your details, examines you, takes a radiograph if useful, orders further tests if needed, makes or confirms the diagnosis while giving you all the necessary explanations, and proposes a treatment. If a procedure is required, there may be a choice between local anaesthesia in the chair, or general anaesthesia in a hospital operating theatre.

Local or general anaesthesia?

The choice depends on the type of procedure, its complexity, the discomfort involved and your personal preferences.

Surgical procedures are carried out either under local anaesthesia at the practice, or under general anaesthesia at the Basilique One-Day Clinic (CHIREC), as day surgery.

What about payment at the practice?

Dr Kovacs is not conventionné, i.e. not bound by the official fees agreed with the national health insurance (INAMI), and does not offer third-party payment (direct billing to your health insurance fund).

We accept cash payments and have a terminal accepting debit cards (Bancontact, Maestro). Payment by smartphone (QR code) is also possible. We do not take credit cards (Visa, MasterCard…).

Any other method of payment — bank transfer, deferred or instalment payment — must be clearly agreed at the start of the consultation, before any procedure is carried out.

I cannot make my appointment

Something can always come up. To allow another patient to book, and thus keep waiting times short, we ask you to notify us of any cancellation 48 hours in advance, by telephone on +32 2 534 88 88 or by e-mail to blaise@kovacs.be.

Your message on the answering machine or in the e-mail must state your name and the date and time of the cancelled appointment; please also indicate whether you would like to be called back to arrange a new one.

For any missed appointment not cancelled in advance, we reserve the right to charge a flat-rate fee.

Which languages are spoken during consultations?

Dr Kovacs speaks French, Dutch, German, English, Spanish and Hungarian.
