This term covers various treatments that the maxillofacial surgeon can carry out in the oral cavity, often at the request of the dentist, the orthodontist or your general practitioner.
The most common procedures
- Impacted teeth: wisdom teeth, but also canines, premolars and molars; orthodontic traction
- Extractions of badly damaged, infected or relatively complex teeth, given the proximity of a nerve or a sinus; extractions in people at particular risk because of their state of health or certain medications
- Cysts and apicectomies (resection of the tip of a root)
- Tongue or lip ties, often in newborns or children
- Lesions of the gums, mucosa or tongue: fibromas, growths, salivary gland cysts, mouth ulcers, white patches
An infection of dental or bone origin may sometimes require surgical management, particularly when it is extensive or does not respond to the usual treatment.
